Entrance to Sunagakure is not a normal gate, but a giant, tall sandstone ravine. Guards are posted at the two top sectors of the walls, monitoring the events at the gate and around the village, and keeping a record of everyone who passes through them. Anyone that seeks refuge from the scorching sands must pass through these gates.
